What is MCX? The Multi Commodity Exchange of India Limited (MCX) is India’s premier electronic commodity derivatives exchange. Regulated by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), MCX handles over 95% of India’s commodity futures trading volume.  It provides a transparent, centralized platform for traders, corporate hedgers, and investors to speculate on or hedge against price movements in commodities without needing physical ownership.

Key Benefits of MCX

Portfolio Diversification: Commodities often behave independently of equity markets, offering a valuable hedge during stock market downturns.
Hedging for Businesses: Importers, jewellers, farmers, and manufacturers use MCX to lock in raw material prices and eliminate price fluctuation risk.
Leverage via Margin Trading: Futures and options allow market participants to hold large contract sizes by depositing only a fraction of the total trade value as margin.
Extended Trading Hours: MCX is open from 9:00 AM to 11:30 PM/11:55 PM IST, allowing Indian traders to react to international market movements in real time.
